They were standing at an intersection, waiting for the light to allow them to cross the street. Once it did, they began walking via the crosswalk across the street. Ambulance and police were dispatched to the scene. As a result, Miami Beach Fire and Rescue brought the couple to Mount Sinai Medical Center. At the hospital, medical personnel immediately treated the couple for their injuries. Ultimately, the couple was able to return to Switzerland. There, the couple each sought out medical care in their home country. Unfortunately, this treatment included multiple surgeries over the course of several years.

Lawsuit against Operator of Public Bus after Running over Swiss Couple

Resolution of the Lawsuit
Miami-Dade County argued that its driver had not committed any wrong. Jackson Law International sought to secure a copy of any video images that had been captured on the bus at the time of the incident. The attorney representing Miami-Dade County claimed that the video showed that the Swiss couple was not in the crosswalk as they were crossing the street. Therefore, Miami-Dade County argued that it was the Swiss couple’s fault for having been hit by the bus. However, Miami-Dade County refused to produce the video.

Ultimately, Jackson Law International was able to secure a court order for the release of the video. The video clearly and undeniably showed that the couple was in the crosswalk until the bus began turning onto the street. At that point, the couple began running away from the bus in an effort to avoid injury. In the end, Jackson Law International achieved a highly favorable settlement in this litigation on behalf of this Swiss couple hit by a bus in Miami Beach, Florida.
